My First Post

So, the problem is that even though I am a working web designer, that means so much of my time is spent working on other people's sites that I don't have time to work on my OWN site. So I thought I would see if a Blog would help me maintain a personal space to put random thoughts and observations of which I have so many and of which are so insightful.

I am right now in love with the movie 'Phenomena' which was released in the US in a butchered form as 'Creepers.' You can now buy the full length version on DVD. While it is a bit bizarre it immediately caught my interest because it pays full respect to insects. How could I not love a movie in which the heroine, played by a very young Jennifer Connelly, states very early on that bees don't hurt her because they seem to like her.

The more I think about the film the more I grow to like it. I have been on a bit of a Dario Argento kick of late. Right now I have to say that 'Deep Red', 'Phenomena' and 'Opera' have impressed me most, but more are on the way from Netflix, so I have to hold off. I saw Suspiria on VHS last year and was pretty disappointed, but in hindsight I just don't think I was ready yet. Argento is kind of an aquired taste. Last night I saw 'Tenebre' and wasn't exactly blown away, it was a bit too much of a typical psycho slasher film. 'Phenomena' though was classic, though. Then again, I have read some reviews written by people who thought it was one of the worst films they ever saw. Argento's films seem to engender these types of reactions, though. I have gotten so sick of the usual fare, though, that his films, as flawed as they are, are really satisfying a need for something different.

I found tonight's version of 'Le Show' to be particularly funny. I love it when Harry Shearer does the conversations between Bush Sr. and Bush Jr. Comedians like him do so much better when there is real political scandal to talk about. Not that I love political scandal, but it sure helps to make for better comedy.
