Cousin Bette
Back in Oakland now. I'm thrilled because on the walk home from the BART station, I passed Grand Ave. Thai Cuisine, which is the newly opened branch of my favorite Thai restaurant: Chao Thai.
We get tons of food from Chao Thai, so am thrilled that I will no longer have to be walking so far to pick up the food -- the new branch is much closer to my house.
On the plane ride, I managed to finish Cousin Bette. What a great book. I'm sorry to learn that the movie version of it represents a completely butchered version of the story, but that doesn't surprise me. In general the book is quite a page turner and filled with enough sin and disreputable characters to keep the modern reader interested. It also doesn't necessarily end with a clean moral resolution which is somewhat unique for a 19th century novel.
