Stendahl Syndrome Walkabout

Dario Argento's Stendahl Syndrome
Walkabout
I was an Air America Radio skeptic last week, but after listening to the new liberal talk radio station from Wed.-Fri. last week, I am pretty excited. They got better every day. By 'they' I mean Janeane Garofalo's 'Majority Report' show. I am still having a hard time warming up to Al Franken's show, and I think Randi Roades New York accent to be intensely grating on my nerves.

Lately I have been annoyed by NPR's need to listen in to both sides of every single issue they cover. When this means letting some wacko from Georgia explain why creationism should be taught in schools, so that a discussion about evolution can be balanced, I kind of lose my mind. Look, people, evolution is settled. People opposed to it can now be classified as completely nuts, and they should not be given a chance to spread their insane ramblings over the public airwaves. Air America has the good sense to call these type of people crazy and for that I salute them.

On another note, I went to my local comic book store lately and discovered that Optic Nerve #9 has come out. It is part 1 in a three part series. I am very happy with this story and think it is something of a return to form for Tomine. It is about a relationship falling apart and I think that is Tomine's specialty (hopefully not in real life!)

As for movies, Argento's The Stendahl Syndrome was quite interesting and surprising, but the DVD transfer done by Troma sucked big time. I finally saw The Advocate and was minorly impressed -- it was educational, but not much else. Walkabout is a film I have seen off and on throughout my life that gets better each time I see it. I am contemplating purchasing it, but it is one of those more expensive $29 DVDs, so I don't know what I'll do yet. It was a nice DVD, though so maybe its worth it? And just last night I saw disc 1 of the "Firefly" box set. The series was cancelled by Fox, (apparently to make way for Average Joe?). It took a couple of episodes, but I am kind of hooked by the characters. Yet another tv show to find a second life as a DVD release!
